The
curriculum at Ryburn is a broad and balanced one, offering a wide
range of experience to all pupils, and aims to develop their
knowledge, understand, skills and personal qualities in order to
make the most of each pupils potential. Much of pupils' learning
will be determined by the national curriculum, particularly during
KS3 (Year 7 to 9).
KS3
The
subjects studied at Key Stage three are English, Mathematics,
Science, Technology (including Resistant Materials; Food Technology,
Textiles Graphics and Electronics), ICT. French or German,
Geography, History, Art, Music, Drama, Physical Education, Religious
Education, and Personal and Social Education. Subjects are taught by
specialist staff, in specialist accommodation where appropriate.
Pupils are taught in mixed-ability groups in Year 7; some setting
(i.e. grouping pupils according to ability in a particular subject)
takes place in Mathematics, Languages (Years 8 & 9) and Science
(Year 9).
KS4
During Year 9, pupils make Option Choices about the subjects
they wish to study at Key Stage Four (Years 10-11). Parents
are closely involved in discussions with senior staff about these
choices they may have a bearing on future career opportunities. |
