Our Key Stage 3 curriculum is broad and balanced. It sets a strong foundation for learning, and allows students to explore and develop their interests.

Students in Year 7 and 8 follow the same curriculum. This is taught over a two-week timetable with 25 hours of lessons each week.

The timetable includes 6 hours each of English, Maths and Science. There are 4 hours each of PE, History, Geography, Technology and a Modern Foreign Language: French, German or Spanish. And there are 2 hours each of Music, Drama, Art, ICT / Computing, PSHCE and Religious Studies.

Ryburn follows the National Curriculum, as set out by the Department for Education.

Extra support

We give extra support in Maths and Literacy for those who start Ryburn working below the expected standard.

We make sure everyone has the basics in place to enable them to access the opportunities school brings.

CHoosing your options

During the Spring Term of Year 8, students choose options for study at GCSE. We offer support to students and families to help you to make the right choice for you. The options available each year are subject to change.

We encourage students at Ryburn to be well-rounded individuals, and there are a huge range of opportunities outside of the curriculum which offer rich opportunities for learning and self-development. From sports to drama productionsstudent leadership to expeditions, we encourage you to explore what's on offer.
