We expect: diligence, determination, energy, creativity, focus and relentless drive.  We are creating an adult who has the confidence to succeed in all the challenges that life brings. At Ryburn, staff and students expect to be challenged, to be extended, to compete and to understand that success comes from a commitment to our motto: ‘Excellere Contende’ – STRIVE TO EXCEL.

Ultimately the core purpose of our curriculum is “to inspire young people with a love of learning, a zest for life and a genuine confidence to excel in a colourful world”.

Wider curriculum

As a School of Character, we nurture the whole person, developing students' skills, character and values along their academic learning. Students learn how to learn, how to lead and how to become a global citizen. Extracurricular activities and clubs are another strength - we have around 50 different activities, from karate to Drama, from STEM club to netball, there’s something for everyone.

Careers and work based learning, and work experience at Key Stages 4 and 5, provide links with the local community. Trips, expeditions and international exchanges are a strong feature of life at Ryburn.

We are proud to offer a broad, balanced, relevant, differentiated and fully inclusive curriculum for all students. The achievements of our students speak for themselves, and we enjoy nurturing them into independent, successful adults.
